Erica Red Corn, a second year KU Med student, was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma, which affects the bones, when she was 15. She still wears a brace on her leg and has scars above her left knee and on her upper left thigh. She also had pieces of both lungs removed. Her then boyfriend, now husband, Alex's father brought her the blanket she is wrapped in when she was in the hospital for treatment. Alex's family is Osage.
