It's United Students

It's election day at KU. Here's why you should vote United Students.

With the student senate campaigns in full swing and Election Day quickly approaching, many students may find themselves asking, “Why should I care about student senate? How does the outcome of this election impact my experience at KU?”

The answer: there is a plan already in the working to enhance your entire college experience. Through sensible and innovative solutions, United Students will address issues of campus security by increasing lighting and the number of security cameras on and off campus. Frequently annoyed by the campus parking situation? United Students proposes to open the Kansas Union Parking Garage to ALL students after 5 pm. Do you want wireless internet in the residence halls? United Students has already collaborated with the KU IT department on a project that will expand wireless internet to student residence halls, and it’s going to happen WITHOUT raising student fees.

If you want sensible solutions to problems that affect every KU student, and if you want a coalition whose members represent the entire student body, not just select groups, United Students is for you. Through positive campaigning, experienced leadership, and solutions already in the workings, you can expect to see tangible changes in your university experience. "No increase will be needed." Stop using Orwellian Double-speak. If the old fee is temporary, and then you extend it's life, it is a fee increase. Deal with it and tell people the truth.

Sorry, the wrong entry was posted due to editor error and some general confusion. The correct one is now posted, but Adam Wood's comment (above) isn't directed at it. The previous blog post was a United Students news release from a couple of months ago about the proposed construction of a new pool and its subsequent fee. The blogger said it was accidentally posted. Adam Wood's above comment is about the pool fee.

Pretty convincing. Yes, "I've already voted" (and for United Students) - but one way or another, everyone should please take the time to vote. http://groups.ku.edu/~election/

"If you want sensible solutions to problems that affect every KU student, and if you want a coalition whose members represent the entire student body, not just select groups, United Students is for you" That's a lie. You don't represent the entire student body with turnout being as low as it always has been. I've been on this campus for five years, and every year, the student senate continuously allows the Athletics Department to play by its own rules why squandering millions of our dollars. This nonsense has to stop. I propose that unless the student senate can get half of all KU students to vote, we shouldn't have a student senate. As of right now, student senate is little more than a resume builder for people living in the Greek system.

I was proud not to vote for United Students, who disingenuously lied last year in a cheap attempt for votes. They asked to come to my organization last year to speak, and I invited them, where they promised not to raise fees. Clearly a lie. I see no reason to trust them this year or any other.
