Want to roller-skate around Beijing with a Tibetan flag?

April 10, 2008

By Joshua Anderson

Yesterday I was making my way across Wescoe Beach, head down, discreetly avoiding the overly people-persony Democratites as they preyed on the last of us who hadn’t yet voted. I was eventually caught, by someone from United Students of Connected Libertarianisms, and asked if I had voted. I lied and said I had. When they asked me who, I panicked. Thumbing the air towards the large group of people waving the large red flags, I said “China.”

Did anyone else catch the irony of the folks taking full advantage of their inalienable Democratic right to demonstrate their views on the sidewalk these last couple of days? Do you think a group of students could travel to, say, Beijing and roller-skate around with a very large Tibetan flag? Do you think that’d go over well? Do you think the Falun Gong club could take a trip to the Olympics?

I think not.

I was going to take this opportunity to remind all of you to boycott the Olympics, but then I remembered: no one watches the Olympics. Besides, this is Lawrence, baby - we’re going to be watching re-runs of a certain good old fashioned American ass-wuppin’ we dealt out last monday all summer long.

GO KU. FREE TIBET!!!

I'd assume that because this is just a blog and thus no reasoning is required. So I guess I can also tell the same story about the Great United States of America. I'm seriously thinking who were the people who first invaded this great piece of land? Who were the people who used the n-word to the African-American and in front of the Chinese saying "Cha-Ching Ching Cha-Ching"? And what about the people who wear white ice-cream cones and ropes saying they are the best race in the whole wide world?
Maybe we should think about kicking all these people's butts out of this land because this group of people have invaded the rights of the others for so many years and the rest of the world should boycott anything they do.
But none of us will and cannot this to these people living in the United States because there's so much history behind that is so hard to change.
It's the same case for Tibet and there have been so much history between the races in China. I have to say that China has a lot of wrongdoings but so does the United States (regardless of who's the President). And believe me, boycotting the Olympics will do nothing to improve the human right issues of China. Boycotting the Super Bowl will not stop the "War on Terrorism", either.
So, I beg you, to stop yelling and to start doing things that would make this world a more harmonious place.
O yea... forgot to tell you that I'm a Chinese, part of the "same bunch of goons and thugs" according Mr. Jack Cafferty of CNN. I'm also a Jayhawk.

Go KU! Love your neighbor and your enemy!

Why is it that anytime someone criticizes any country's foreign policy or lack of democratic merit they get branded a racist? One can literally say "I do not hate your people" and the very first email to get sent is the "admit you hate my people" one.

I feel like I'm taking stupid pills.

The second accusation that gets leveled is the: well you're country sucks too, don't be a hypocrite. There are other conflicts, don't pick on my country, wah wah wah.

Stop crying. No one is exempt from criticism. No one. That's the beauty of democracy. Freedom of speech.

Free Tibet. Free Palestine. Free Speech.

I don't think these guys realize that we're not only critical of their government, we're critical of ours as well. No, we're not entirely objective but at least we can make such admissions unashamedly.
