Brandon Rush posted bond at Douglas County Jail after police arrested him for having two outstanding warrants when he appeared in Lawrence Municipal Court Thursday afternoon.

City prosecutor Jerry Little said Rush, a junior guard, came to the municipal courthouse around 3 p.m. He was not due in court, but had failed to show up at previous court dates for traffic violations and had outstanding warrants.

Little said Rush thought he could post bond for the two warrants, but the judge ordered police to arrest him. They took him to Douglas County Jail where he was held until about 4 p.m. when he posted $850 bond.

Kansas coach Bill Self said Rush would not be suspended.

"We are disappointed because our players need to be more responsible when handling situations in dealing with the law," Self said in a statement. "Brandon did not to appear in court, therefore, this happened. This is a costly lesson for him and a great lesson for the rest of our players. Although this matter has been reported publicly, any team punishment will be handled internally."

Rush, who had ACL surgery in June, is averaging 10.3 points and 4.5 rebounds through six games since his return from the injury. He is a two-time All Big 12 First Team selection and is a member of the preseason All Big 12 First Team this year. Rush has led the Jayhawks in scoring during his first two season.

In my humble opinion, he should be suspended for one game. While this wasn't a terrible offense, our athletic program shouldn't tolerate such irresponsibility. It reflects poorly upon the University.
