Dena Hart, Chicago junior, and Jessica Levy, Dallas senior, receive an award on the behalf of their 11-member project from KU Provost Richard Lariviere Wednesday afternoon at the Kansas Union. The team was recognized for their 4-stage project's impact in the Lawrence area for sustainability. The group advocated for re-usable cups and compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) amongst other environmental improvements to conserve energy.

Additional bike racks on the University of Kansas campus give students more room to park in front of several buildings. The increased gas prices brought more bikers to campus, and the Facilities and Operations department saw the need to create more racks. The department worked with students to find the best places to build the new bike rack areas. Doug Riat, director of the Facilities and Operations department, said he wanted to put more racks in front of Budig Hall.

Zach Pederson, Spring Hill junior, hits his approach shot on hole two at Alvamar Golf Course in the Kansas Invitational, a 16-team tournament, on Monday afternoon. KU finished the first of three rounds in a third place tie with Kansas State with a combined team score of 298. The Kansas Invitational has been held since 1983, and the Jayhawks are three time defending champs. The final round will be played today.

University of Kansas chancellor, Robert Hemenway, welcomes the Class of 2011 as the newest members in the Jayhawk family Wednesday night during the 142nd Convocation at the Lied Center. He urged students to take pride in their recent Jayhawk heritage because of what he referred to as the Jayhawk's unique presence throughout the world.
