Steve McCurry: Acclaimed photojournalist Steve McCurry recently made a visit to the University of Kansas. McCurry began his career with the coverage of the Soviet War in Afghanistan. He has continued to cover international conflicts including the Iran-Iraq war, Beirut, Cambodia and the Gulf War. KJHK reporter Hayley Shanks was there to learn more about McCurry's award winning work.
Rock Band: In 2007, the video gaming industry saw a total revenue of almost $18 billion dollars. One of the games released during the record-setting year was Rock Band, a game which replaces typical controllers with guitars, a microphone and even a drum set. Rock Band has left KJHK contributor Tom Atchity amazed, not at the game's ability to generate revenue, but at its ability to bring people together.
Internships: An internship is an impressive addition to any college student's resume, but how essential are internships in helping students launch a career after graduation? To answer that question, KJHK contributor Natalie Brown spoke with Erin Wolfram, assistant director of employer networks at KU's Career Center.
Math Awareness Month: For all you math whizzes out there, April is National Math Awareness Month. In appreciation of math awareness, the University of Kansas recently held a workshop for a group of elementary students. The workshop focused on the relationship between mathematics and voting. KJHK reporter Emily Soetaert spoke with the workshop's coordinator to talk about the many opportunities available through an appreciation of mathematics.
Wilco: Chicago-based rock group Wilco will be visiting Lawrence next month as part of their latest tour. KJHK contributor Sam Stratton explains why Lawrence officials are hoping that the outdoor concert will provide a boost to downtown businesses.
Music review: The Rolling Stones' "Shine a Light: Original Soundtrack": Last week, we took a look at "Shine a Light", Martin Scorsese's new film which features The Rolling Stones. This week, KJHK's music critic Elliot Kort takes a look at the film's soundtrack to see what me may have missed in the movie.
