I disagree. Texting has some great uses. For example, when you're in a noisy area and talking would be futile. Or, when you're giving/receiving simple directions such as "I'm on my way," there's no need to have a conversation that's longer than 10 seconds. So why not text?

Calling these "debates" is a flagrant misnomer. When two people debate they actually engage one another. What we get is more like opportunity to dish out more talking points.

But both sides want to avoid a real debate. They might actually come to a consensus and solve some problems in a debate. It's better to make issues black-and-white and hope your side seems less absurd.

Obama and the members of his fan club think people in small town America are stupid rednecks that cling to their guns and religion. That's how/why I call him an elitist.

On Letter: How can you call Barack Obama an elitist?

When Jim Lehrer asked both candidates how a $700b bailout would effect the plans they have for their administration, neither could give a specific example. In other words, both seemed to think spending $700b would do nothing to their budget plans. Now, if you're a voter basing your vote entirely on the economy like you suggest most people will, are you going to vote for the guy proposing massive new programs and increased government spending with no regard to $700b cut in your available funds?

Despite the low approval ratings of the current president and Senator Obama continuously reminding the country how they differ, he has yet to take a significant margin in any poll. This should be an indication that voters don't have a great deal of confidence in Obama.

This election is far from over.

Sounds like you and your professor have your heads lodged firmly up your vaginas. I'm thrilled to see your professor could turn her public university classroom into a recruitment center for the Barack Obama Fanclub. The above poster is right, women are only voting with their vaginas when they vote republican apparently. This is as absurd as Anne Coulter claiming women shouldn't be voting because they tend to vote Democrat.

What if I cried outrage that Obama chose Joe Biden - a WHITE man - because I thought they were shamelessly trying to scrounge up white votes? I would be conveniently ignoring his liberal positions, just like you're conveniently ignoring Sarah Palin's conservative positions.

I cannot believe the audacity of John McCain: trying to appeal to more voters? How dare he! And can you believe the nerve of a Republican presidential candidate choosing a WOMAN who happens to be a pro-life NRA member that wants to open up ANWR just to grab more votes from women?

Rather than dismissing her as a cheap trick to get votes, you could see how her positions are in line with the Republican party's base. She's pro-life, favors nuclear power, favors drilling in ANWR, and favors drilling off-shore. All of these things are likely to get conservatives to the polls. A candidate on the Republican ticket who holds these views would be considered a sold choice among conservatives if the pick were a man. Why is it different for a woman?

While it sucks the college team I like is hurt by his decision, hearing how good he is encourages me because the pro team I like will be that much better. Carson needs all the protection he can get. Who Dey Anthony Collins! Welcome to The Jungle.

If you'd like to relinquish the right to defend yourself be my guest. But take note that the police will be the first to admit that there's no standard law enforcement procedure to prevent outbreaks of violence such as school shootings. Our only defense sometimes is ourselves.
