Editorial: Students should support smoking ban

All great reasons against smoking indoors, as well as smoking in general. Don't forget that I AGREE with you on this. However it is perfectly fair. Their privately owned and operated business, their rules. Eventually enough people NOT going there would send the message of "oh crap, I guess we should ban smoking in here!" Point is that it isn't the government's job to regulate these types of things. Don't get me started on seatbelts!

Editorial: Students should support smoking ban

^ +1....Sure smoking is disrespectful to your surrounding non-smokers. And NO, you can't deny the inherent health risks that come from smoking. But it is absolutely not the government's job to regulate the way a privately owned business runs. If 71% of people are in favor of a ban because they don't like smoke inside, then be a consumer. Talk with your money and your feet. DON'T go to the places you don't like. The businesses will figure out that their lack of customers is related to their smoking policy and will change it themselves, the way it is supposed to work. Lets spend time and money on legislation that actually matters!

Halloween: a changing tradition

How about it's just a fun holiday and we leave it at that? Young adults will continue to celebrate it however they see fit until they have kids, at which time it will revert to a more "innocent" holiday. Until an 8 year old comes to my house dressed as "slutty Dora the Explorer" I won't be concerned.

Poole: How narrow victories will pile up for McCain

so she spoke to the camera, so what? jim leher (durign the last presidential debate, obviously not the VP debate) encouraged the candidates to speak to each other, since they are debating with each other. palin looked into the camera when she was doing her unnecessary folksy bits..winking and using terms like "hockey mom."

additionally you shouldn't lay on the praise quite so thick for palin's performance. she only did a "good job" because everyone expected another disaster. there isn't much to be said for *not* making a fool of oneself for once.
