I believe the author is wrong with this issue. If KU builds an aquatic center, it can possibly attract a lot more capital to KU simply because people see KU as something that is growing and expanding.

If the issue were to come up, I would vote yes.

I think Obama won the debate because it's clear that this was supposed to be McCain's strongest subject area, and he wasn't able to beat him.

Since Obama held his own most of the time, people would say that it might be a tie, but due to the nature of the topic, Obama won.

And that's sexist in my opinion.

I would agree that women who vote anti-abortion don't hate themselves, but they do it because they feel it's in the best interest to protect the fetus, but they're misguided in that they have this misconceive notion of agency behind them. In fact, they guided by what they unintentionally grew up with and that's men are superior to women thus they should be controlled in some way. This is one way that men are controlling women by vicariously "teaching" other women.

The fact that Republicans are now crying sexist is hypocritical because the charge of sexism was ignored during Hillary Clinton's run for the White House. I do agree that it is sexist of people to demeen her [Palin] because of her gender/sex.

Again, the issue of abortion isn't about life of a newborn, but about controlling women's bodies. Now if there was an equivilent issue for men concerning their bodies, and putting it to par with this, then I would say let the people vote.

pantheon, what are you talking about? You're starting to sound a little nutso.

As for posting voting records online, I think it should be made available what was voted up and what was voted down, but the problem is hiring someone to create the infrastructure to do so. So once we have someone to do it and upkeep it or make it user friendly, then I think it should be easier.

glenjamin:

Actually a bunch of people did get together and said "Let's put a restriction on sex." Truth be honest, we live in a sex negative society where it is still risque to talk about sex. How do you think those restriction got put on in the first place. Yes those restrictions were an attempt to attach "morality" to something that happens naturally, but that concept of "morality" was constructed from the discourse of people during that time.

If you want a twist to add to chaos theory, let's add relational dialectics to the fold to say that we have these dialectical tensions that flow back and forth from chaos to (social) order. Chaos theory would help to explain the back and forth motions, and how it can change abruptly.

Also to comment on your sarcastic rock comment, I just happen to study sex and communication as a graduate student.

Sex is a naturalistic, animal act. It's been politicized to mean something than it really is.

Society has constructed sex to be this sacred act that is ideally committed within (heterosexual) marriage. Really, I believe it's only done as an effort to control people.

This article is just one example of that attempted control that people try to exert onto others when they are mature enough to make their own decisions.

Queers and Allies has done numerous amounts of activism projects in its past and even in recent years. Unfortunately, there have been few people involved who have been motivated enough to take action as an elected position.

Rock on Q&A and Megan, but don't forget your Q&A history. The queer history at KU is what makes Q&A stand out as one of the University's significant student organizations.

Oh wait, you forget that there are those who bypass background checks, and purchase guns to go on a mass kill spree (e.g., Columbine, Virginia Tech, etc.).

It's not a bad article because it puts a personal narrative into a story that has been so politicized that people don't know the facts from fiction. Just because you disagree doesn't not mean that it wasn't well written and did not deserve to be in this paper. Personal narratives are people one of the most powerful forms of persuasion because of its humanizing qualities. So unless those who support having guns have their own personal story to share about how carrying a gun has saved their life and the lives of others, then I would reevaluate epistemological foundation on guns and violence.
