"Janell22" I was responding to number 3 in the letter which states that the pill has had no effect on fertility. Maybe it is the letter writer who needs to do more research. My statement about the workings of the Pill is factually correct.

Also "society" is not merely college students. I don't live in a dorm and I don't trust inexpensive condoms so I choose to buy them. Just as a woman would choose to go on the Pill. If it is for medical reasons I will relent on this point, otherwise it is a personal choice. I'm sorry that health insurance doesn't pay for it, but that is another issue.

I'm sorry to any women who were offended by the article.

It looks as though you were trying to be offended. Yes it was a dumb article, but the best thing to do in that case is ignore it. It was meant to be a humorous list of GUY reasons. It wasn't really humorous, but that is beside the point.

Also in response to 2 of your points. Number 7 states that society assumes that women will purchase contraception. I don't remember the last time my girlfriend bought condoms and I have contributed to the expense of the pill before. Also, I would not be the pregnant one if contraception was not used and thus the pressure falls on the person who would have to bear the child.

Number 3 has you comparing apples and oranges. The pill for women does not have anything to do with creating sterility. It merely prevents an egg from becoming embedded. It does not stop egg production. We have no idea how decreasing a man's fertility to zero will affect him long term.

Don't jump to anger when it is not warranted.

Pantheon your argument is ridiculous. First of all the atomic bombs not only destroyed the cities, but killed many of the people in those cities and had other lasting side effects. Remember that when you compare apples and oranges next time.

If every sperm is sacred why wouldn't just one sperm at a time enter the womb and fertilize the egg. Isn't it counter to your argument that millions of sperm die even when they are used for their "intended purpose"

Apparently you are missing the sense to see from my comment that a pool is not something that will push me or apparently my KU brethren (as only 17% voted) to vote.

If the winning coalition won because of a PROPOSED pool, tell me what exactly about that is supposed to make me want to get out and vote. The pool is a ridiculous idea, if a coalition had a valid plan for more parking spaces that would be something to write home about.

We only have two options? Wow, I would have thought maybe some non-hyperbolic middle ground could have been reached.

Student Senate does not affect my life more than the President. The $400 a semester in student fees pale in comparison to the amount I am paying in federal taxes on a yearly basis. Not to mention the President's control of foreign relations and Supreme Court nominations which will affect plenty of my daily life.

With that said there is voter apathy due to questionable election rules and results. People don't think their vote counts, or if it does then it won't matter because they aren't a bus full of voters or a basketball player at a voting table. Should we try to change the system from within? Yes, and I think that is being attempted, but until there is evidence that one party will not dominate through "questionable" practices then I wouldn't expect people to run out to the polls.

Miniscule $40 fee? I'll take it from you since you seem to think it is so tiny. And the sob story about out of state tuition doesn't make any point either. You are a junior, if you had stayed a couple of summers in Lawrence or Kansas you could be paying in-state.

I agree that we shouldn't rely on the athletics department for money, but they shouldn't rely on our fee either. I could use that miniscule $40 to pay off some debts.

"More executive experience" is quite a phrase. A nice qualifier that hides the fact that she was mayor of a town of 7,000 and governor of a state lacking substantial population. Sarah Palin terrifies me. Not as a liberal (I'm very moderate), but as a citizen. And I'm not scared for now so much as 4 years from now when she could be leading the ticket if McCain is elected. Closed-minded and two-faced (Bridge to Nowhere) candidates energize me to vote Libertarian.

BizGrad, that is a straw man argument. I don't necessarily agree with onceinawhile, but they suggested that while the fetus was within a woman's body, thus a fetus, it was that woman's decision, not once it was born. Your hypothetical completely misrepresents point. I don't know which side is right, but I do know that this isn't my big issue in the current political climate.
