It is a great student paper. I challenge you to find a larger one in the country. That being said it is obvious that a few of their reporters are struggling to provide accurate information. And yes I do read the paper for more than those things but I am the minority and the majority of the time I look for articles like this as I care about this issue.

On Hartz: Athletics Department ignores concerns

Athletics is open to all students, they must tryout. Just like the business school or the law school, you must be accepted based on your performance. Should we stop funding the business school because not everyone has grades good enough to get in? Find me a sport that doesn't give all students the opportunity to tryout and maybe i'll start listening to your reasoning.

On Editorial Board: Athletic funding shouldn't fall on students

Marchiony was referring to the parking lots around the stadium when he stated he has never heard a problem. The reporters of this paper were the ones who miconstrued his statement. Since you wouldn't dare park in those spots due to the longer walk it would cause you, you are like most other students on this campus. Have you ever see those lots full? I don't think so, and that making Marchiony correct. Finally you love the view of the hill and being able to walk down into MEMORIAL STADIUM. That's right, you hate athletics and all of its "stuff" but you like walking into their stadium. Maybe they should take that away from you as well and see how valuable YOUR hill is. This hill is special because of the stadium, the stadium is special because of athletics. Heaven for bid that your university and your athletic department want to put the best team possible on those fields. Also what nature are those practice fields ruining? The asphalt parking lots? Mother nature most be rolling over in her grave now that we are putting two large grass areas over those large black asphalt spots. Hopefully she doesn't punish us...

On Earles: Complaints about parking growing louder

It is sad that the Daily Kansan, one of the greatest student run papers in the country, would continue to let someone as uneducated as yourself continue to publish these uneducated columns. In typical Kansan form you have taken a quote out of context and based your article on it. Mr. Marchiony has said that he has never heard there being a problem in that particular parking lot. You have taken his comment out of context and applied it to all parking spaces on campus. Second you blame the athletic department for gameday parking. Those lots are still controlled by your parking department and athletics does not see that revenue. Maybe the parking department should stop being so greedy and not let non passholding individuals park in YOUR lots. Finally, I always find it comical that everyone complains about athletics but never gives it credit for what it does for the University. Do you think anyone would know we were the Jayhawks without our sports teams? Do you think anyone would buy that apparel that you are looking for all over town without our sports teams? Hell, do you think any advertisers would purchase space in YOUR paper if it wasn't for the coverage of our schools sports teams? Because minus the free for all and the crosswords nobody would read it. This article is not surprising but still dissapointing for such a high class paper.

On Hartz: Athletics Department ignores concerns

I think athletics would be happy to build a parking garage if the University would allow them to operate it. Not only would this allow their employees a place to park but also would allow them to generate more revenue at their sporting events. I doubt the parking department will allow this.

I also don't think Mr. Marchiony's quote was taken correctly. If you read further he says parking is not a problem in Lot 94. Can anyone say this is not true?
