Read up a little empire. The chancellors and presidents DID address the issue of the 'culture of binge drinking.' None of them are suggesting that we simply lower the drinking age and leave it at that.

If they do rename it, does that mean that they will get rid of the potholes?

You must be young. Look up the history of presidential campaigns and you will find that it is quite common for there to be several candidates still going at the time of conventions. There is no problem other than this campaign season started too early.

"Should the U.S. massively overhaul its immigration policy? Yes"

No. We overhauled it in the 80's but there have been continual budget cuts so that the laws are entirely unsupported. The issue today is loaded with too much hatred. If we want results we should demand that our congressmen provide adequate funding to the programs in place rather than pandering to xenophobic racists.

Please, please, please will you people take a linguistic class before spouting out about peoples use of language. Everyone who writes about this always makes the assumption that people who don't speak the way you do are somehow 'lazy'. There is a difference between spoken and written forms of language. Yes, academic writing should follow standardized rules; spoken language doesn't have to. People speak the way the learned to speak.

"This is one reason the French standard of living is far below ours. Even our poor have more cars, televisions, microwaves, dishwashers, etc., per capita, than the average French citizen. "

This is your measure of standard of living? I'd rather have the month long vacation and the shorter work week that the French enjoy...as well as the health care. I think you need to review your data.
