Wilson: Excessive meal plans, fees cause unfair waste

I remember my freshman year when I had meals left on my card- they told me my meals would still be on there for the following semester. They definitely were not. I was quite surprised when I went to eat the next semester with a friend living in the dorms, to find out that not only did I not have the meals left, but the price for a "guest" went up from $7 to $9.

Brown: Students should be parking priority, even on game days

I'm not even a student any more and I completely agree. Monday through Friday all campus parking should give priority to students. If there is not enough parking to accomodate students AND athletics, there needs to be another solution, i.e. a parking garage. Some students can't always take classes during the day but they shouldn't have to worry about parking when they go to a night class.

Letter: ‘Tip’ doesn’t stand for ‘Thanks, I pass’

no, irish. if a server truly does a good job and puts forth the effort to make sure i have a good dining experience in their restaurant, i will gladly tip them well, more than 20% often, which is more than the 15% you seem to think is adequate.

do you really think that someone can do a horrible job when they're serving someone their food and expect a good tip? in any other occupation, someone doing a poor job would get reprimanded, just in a different way. so why should servers be able to get away with doing less than what is expected of them?

I agree with Abita. I go to a restaurant for the experience, and if that experience is ruined because of something my server did, it is going to effect the tip I leave. Most servers know that their tip is dependent on the level of service they provide to the customer. If a customer has a bad experience as a direct result of the server's doing, that customer isn't going to leave a good tip, if they leave one at all. A tip isn't a "given", it's earned.

Letter: What is the FOCA?

health care providers, clinics, and hospitals only are "forced" to do those things if they wany government funding. they certainly have the CHOICE not to do those things and not to accept government funding.

Brown: Why don’t students use what they pay for?

I am by no means supporting drunk driving, but I know that with SafeRide you need to show a KU ID to get a ride, and not everyone carries their ID with them when they go to a bar or party. I also know that there have been times where people have had to wait a lot longer than 20 minutes to get a ride from SafeRide, and waiting around patiently isn't something drunk people are inclined to do.

I guess I'm just trying to justify to myself why students would drive drunk when there is a free service provided to avoid it.
