Sad stuff. I agree that an 8-team playoff would just switch the discussion from what are the two best teams, to what unlucky team ends up being #9. The plus-one system might be better than the tournament, but it unmasked a dark realization: There's no real good way to do it. I would've loved to see USC play LSU after they both won their bowl games last year though.
I'm with you 100% Caleb. It might be easier for me to say it's time to move on, but it needs to happen. We are in the midst of costly war and economic crisis, and Mr. Obama can't fix it all by his own self. Cooperation is needed to help the nation move forward, and those who said around 11:00 last night the likes of, "what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger. But I'm pretty sure this is going to kill us!" or "congratulations America...we are officially f*cked," need to get over it. By the same token the person above who said he or she will gloat about this, you are worth less than worthless. Enjoy that your man won, but what will gloating and taunting the other side do? Give you two minutes of lowly, hollow satisfaction while you berate someone who is already upset? Grow up.
I operate in very much the same way. Other than countless awkward encounters, the main plus of having divorced parents is having two shots to con a free meal out of them. We should take advantage, as you say, of getting free meals from the folks, but I sincerely believe they like having me around, even if it is costing them.
I would talk about how the league has been run into the ground and how the common fan doesn't care anymore, but I write about soccer (I'll call it soccer this once) and it can definitely be said about the MLS. It's a shame too because hockey is a damn entertaining sport. I don't quite understand the line changes. Nor do I properly appreciate the intricacies of the game, but I do understand that the game is almost non-stop action with a couple fights sprinkled in. If the NHL gets off the Versus channel and back to ESPN it could regain popularity.
It does seem like a waste of money and an attempt to appear like a better place rather than actually becoming a better place. I want to know what the officers think about this. They can't be too excited about riding these things. These things look funny thus it'll make anyone on it look funny. I can't wait to see it.
Reading this reminded me how many memories I have from downtown. From celebrating numerous KU sporting victories to wandering out of my dad's office on 7th street through the back alleys every summer day as a kid. I've had my handful of dates, seen rock shows, drank beers and been told dirty jokes by hobos. After I finish up my schooling I'm going to miss it.
Our campaign system is so ridiculous from how long it is to how it's covered. Every day or so you can find something worth mocking. Either a candidate will say something funny or some media outlet will cover a speech or development in some hilarious, over-the-top fashion. It may be serious business deciding the "leader of the free world," but it's more pertinent that we all have fun with it.
I don't watch baseball games normally, but one five years back got me. Game seven of the 2003 ALCS gave me a little of the mystique of Yankee Stadium. I'm not a Yankee fan or a baseball fan really by any stretch, but I watched most of that game seven between the Yanks and the Sox (probably the only game I watched that year and glad I did). Aaron Boone's 11th inning home run to send the Yankees to the World Series might be the only thing from a baseball game that I saw live and felt completely taken aback by. I guess it had to happen at Yankee Stadium. It'll be missed.
Pachamama's is the best restaurant in Lawrence, so well-played by Mr. Beattie again for seeking it out. It used to be even more hidden between the Hy-Vee on Clinton Parkway and the Alvamar golf course, but now it's more out in the open. I would like to respectfully correct Sommerville because in my expert opinion, and I'll ask Beattie for verification, Pachamama's is categorically not a hole-in-the-wall.
How have I not noticed this. I grew up in Lawrence, played soccer in that park, and walk past it whenever I go downtown. It sounds spectacular, and I gratefully salute Mr. Beattie for bringing it to this guy's attention. Now I only hope they're open until 2:30 in the morning for some post-bar brain freezes.

Intimidating? I Think Not.
