Letter: Why I decided not to shop at JoeCollege.com

No, what's unacceptable is that a small business owner is out a half million in legal fees and fines because the University doesn't like Sinks or his T-shirts. Sinks was so guilty of infringing on the University's trademark that it or the court was not able to define how Sinks infringed on the University's trademark. If the Athletics Department were smarter they would make shirts that appealed to college-age kids and not their parents. Sinks would not be in business if the Department simply did this. It would also be a lot cheaper.

Poole: Don't be afraid of the next four years

In his own words, Obama has said, "The only bills I voted for, for the most part, since I've been in the Senate, have been introduced by Republicans or George Bush." Also, the broken health care system is leading companies across America into bankruptcy--notably those like G.M. According to the company itself, it does not have enough money to make it through 2009. It will go bankrupt unless the government bails it out--"socialism bailing out capitalism."

As for the majority of the country leaning center right, this is not true--at least with regard to economics, which is what drives this country. The majority support universal health care, a progressive tax system, clean water, clean air, more money for alternative energy, etc. However, the misconception remains because of the way the issue is framed and how the elites pit one side against another when there are really many more sides battling for support.

Mangiaracina: How businesses profit from breast cancer

AIDS affects men and women about equally, whereas breast cancer overwhelmingly affects women. The focus of this piece is how corporations sucker women into buying more products. I agree that we shouldn't spend so much money on AIDS research, though there are plenty of things we spend way too much money on, like the military, unnecessary wars, subsidizing the rich etc. Also, there are many other small killers I could have included, like homicide, airplane crashes, etc., but didn't have the space or time to go into these. You unfortunately have to focus tightly under such constraints.

Putting on the brakes

Speaking of which, this guy just crashed his car into Copy Co. on Sunday. He thought the car was in reverse, but it turned out it was in drive.

Lynn Jenkins Divorce is a Private Matter - Back Off

Though I agree that personal matters are not relevant to doing a good job in office, the fact of the matter is that such matters are unfortunately very important to many voters. This is especially true among the right's constituency. The shamelessness of the right is staggering when it comes to exploiting their personal lives for political gain. The left has done the same, but to a lesser degree. They are but amateurs at this game that trivializes campaigns. The divorce story is newsworthy in this instance for exposing the hypocrisy of another family values campaign, especially when if this was revealed earlier Boyda most likely would have won this very close election. Instead, Jenkin's husband put his wife's professional career ahead of his personal interest of getting divorced. Ah yes, another case of being "human all too human."

Yeah, social interaction is necessary, but it can only get you so far. I still love 1984 too. Also, Robert Randolph is playing for free on Friday...if you're interested.

Mangiaracina: Why insignificant news trumps the real news

Wow, you are so right. It's such a terrible thing to challenge the form because then it might progress. The worst thing about this is that it would encourage others to do the same, resulting in a pandemic of thinking people. How dangerous to suggest such a thing!

Stewart: Newspaper shouldn’t back the University’s demands

Ownership. I couldn't have written it better myself.

Mangiaracina: An open letter to South Florida's Athletics Dept.

Haha. It makes you look ignorant when you don't understand satire. I love it.

Let Nader debate!

Can't argue with that. You should read Nader's "Crashing the Party" if you haven't already. Great read. I have it if you're interested.
