Finally, an article about soccer. Thanks. We should qualify easily, and hopefully improve on our pathetic showing in Germany. That is, if Bob Bradley realizes that Clint Dempsey should play every minute of every game and Landon Donovan is not above being benched.

Those are good points you bring up. You'll be glad to know, then, that the developers have already tackled these issues. The laptops can use solar panels or hand cranks as power souces, and wireless servers are being distributed to schools along with the computers for access to the internet. The software is open-source so it can be constantly improved along with the hardware. This information is all avaliable on the website, www.laptop.org.
No one is suggesting that we should redirect funds for emergency food and shelter to technology, but at some point there has to be progress in education in order for developing nations to be self-sustainable. This initiative is a big step in that process.

Wow. People will never cease to amaze me with their wildly irrelevant nitpicking on trivial words. Quite an adventure in missing the point.

While you are technically correct that Bangladesh isn't located within the geographical confines of the traditional Middle East revolving around Palestine, I believe that this in no way diminishes the believability or relevance of the issue. Bangladesh, being east of the Indian subcontinent but west of Southeast Asia, would probably be considered "South Asia" (or, the middle of the East) along with Pakistan and India. But it is fundamentally different from these two countries and, for our purposes, even though it is not an Arab state, could easily be considered along with the volatile nations of the Middle East in the American consciousness. Perhaps an uncapitalized "middle east" would have been more appropriate. I hope you can still get something out of the article despite this.
