Lawrence police are using significant funds to put forth this effort to shut down the use of fake ID's at Lawrence bars. What about the 'student ghetto' and the serial rapist that has still not been caught. I feel like we are getting ahead of ourselves on trivial issues like the usage of fake ID's. I completely agree that youth abuse of alcohol is a major issue, but moving it out of bars and into houses is not going to change that. It will, however, hand out felonies to college kids trying to socialize with peers at a bar and ruin many plans for professional careers out of college.

Perhaps "college kids trying to socialize with peers at a bar" should try a method of getting into a bar that isn't a felony? Something that is less like what a terrorist would try (faking an ID) and something more like trespassing?
I completely disagree that youth abuse of alcohol is a major issue, but falsification of state identification is a very serious issue. The reason that false identification is treated more seriously than underage drinking is because it's not just about underage drinking. That's what underage drinking laws are for. If you don't understand what the major, serious problems are with people misrepresenting who they are... Godsdammit are you even 18 yet? This is like something written by a high-schooler.

There is a difference between terrorists creating fake identification and college students trying to get into the Hawk. It has been overlooked in the past and there haven't been any terrorist attacks in Lawrence. Good point pulling that and then trying to make me look naive.

That's true. There is a difference. The entire difference is the intent. The methodology? That's EXACTLY THE SAME. I'm not trying to make you look naive. You're very good at that on your own.
Useless
You would think if the intent was different the punishment would be different as well. They are targeting the use of fake ID's to aid in underage drinking, not people attempting identity theft or terrorism. I don't know many terrorists who borrow a friend's ID to get into a college bar, so I don't see how the methodology is the exactly the same.
